The World Choral Festival came to life through the vision of its creator, Gregory Charles, and through the growing popularity of a very dynamic art and leisure form in Quebec and in Laval, in particular: choral singing in all its forms.
Created in 2005, The Loto-Québec World Choral Festival has become, in a very short time, both a national and international event on a very large scale, as proven by the 50,000 choir members and 2 million spectators who took part in the first 5 editions. The 300 shows and recitals of amateur choirs that were held there are the most melodious testimony to all this. And the more than 500 volunteers who have devoted their efforts to these events are the best spokespeople. The Grands Prix awards of Tourisme Québécois, received in 2007, 2008 and 2009, confirm it all.
Since today, it is considered to be the largest gathering of choirs and vocal groups in all of North America, The World Choral Festival has made it possible for Laval to proclaim itself the World Capital of Choral Singing in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada. The event has also helped update a collective form of musical art that has all too often been cast on the sidelines.
