For the first time, the Mondial Choral Loto-Québec joins the CBC/Radio-Canada National Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs. Choirs awarded first prizes during the finals held next April in Toronto will be invited to compete for the Healy-Willan prize ($5,000), offered by the Canada Council for the Arts. Finalists will also compete for the Cantabile prize ($5,000) remitted by a committee formed by the Mondial Choral Loto-Québec. The 13 finalist choirs, coming from all Canadian Provinces, will thus meet in Laval, from the 16th to the 19th of May 2008. A gala concert will be held at l’Église Ste-Rose (Ste-Rose church) on Sunday, May 18th, and broadcasted simultaneously on Espace Musique and CBC Radio 2.
Congratulations to the Vancouver Cantata Singers, conducted by Eric Hannan, winner of the Healey-Willan prize awarded by the National Arts Council!
Congratulations also to the Hamilton Children’s Choir conducted by Zimfira Poloz, winner of the Cantabile prize awarded by the jury of the Mondial.
For those who couldn’t attend the concert gala, we are glad to announce that they will be back in Laval to compete in the Wolrd Choral Singing Competition in July 2009.
